What is Chart of Accounts?
The Chart of Accounts (CoA) in ERPNext is a hierarchical tree of all ledger accounts used to classify every financial transaction in your business.
Structure of ERPNext Chart of Accounts
ERPNext's CoA follows a multi-level tree: Root → Group → Ledger. Root types are Asset, Liability, Equity, Income, and Expense. Navigate to Accounting → Chart of Accounts to view, create, or import your account tree.
Indian Account Standards and Custom CoA
ERPNext ships with a pre-built Indian CoA compliant with Schedule III of the Companies Act. You can import a custom CoA via CSV or build it manually. Accounts can be tagged with Account Currency for multi-currency businesses.
