What is Asset Depreciation?
ERPNext's Asset module automates depreciation schedules using Straight Line, Written Down Value, or Double Declining Balance methods for all fixed assets.
Setting Up Fixed Assets
Go to Assets → Asset → New. Enter the item, purchase date, gross purchase amount, and depreciation method. ERPNext generates a depreciation schedule automatically. Run Depreciation from the Asset Depreciation Ledger button or via the scheduled job.
Asset Reports and Disposal
The Asset Depreciation Ledger shows accumulated depreciation per asset. When disposing of an asset, create an Asset Movement (Transfer/Scrap/Sale). ERPNext posts the gain/loss on disposal to the P&L automatically.
