What is Bill of Materials (BOM)?
A Bill of Materials (BOM) in ERPNext is a structured list of raw materials, components, and operations required to manufacture one unit of a finished product.
Creating a BOM in ERPNext
Go to Manufacturing → BOM → New. Set the Item (finished good), quantity, and UOM. Add raw material rows (item, quantity, UOM, rate). Add operations referencing Workstations and routing times. Set one BOM as default per item for use in Production Planning.
Multi-Level BOM and Sub-Assemblies
For complex products with sub-assemblies, ERPNext supports multi-level BOMs. A parent BOM can reference child BOMs (sub-assembly items) recursively. The BOM Explosion report shows all raw material requirements rolled up to the top level.
