What is BOM Management?
BOM Management is the process of creating, maintaining, and version-controlling Bills of Materials to ensure production uses accurate material lists and specifications.
BOM Version Control
Products evolve — an engineering change may require different raw materials or revised quantities. BOM management involves version control: each design revision creates a new BOM version, with the old version retained for reference. Production Orders reference the active (default) BOM, preventing use of outdated specifications.
BOM Management in ERPNext
ERPNext supports BOM amendment and new versions. Each BOM has an Amendment No field incremented on changes. The BOM Comparison report shows differences between versions. Mark one BOM per item as "Default" for use in Production Plans. Use the BOM Explosion report to see all material requirements including sub-assemblies.
